R Stands for Rad, R Beach, Ellwood, Goleta

"R Stands for Rad", R Beach, Ellwood, Goleta. 20x40 inches, oil on canvas, sold
Some people cleaned up one of the coastal brambles and a nice flat spot with shade remained. The view was changing to a different radness every few minutes. I jumped in the water and body surfed a few times. Thankful to be back at my home.

Simply Santa Barbara, from Convivo Restaurant

This is the view from my new favorite restaurant, Convivo, at the Santa Barbara Inn. If you haven't sat on the patio eating Nonad Italian Food, sipping Sav Blanc, your missing out!

"Hot Harbor", Santa Barbara, California

"Hot Harbor", 24x36, oil on canvas, sold

Two of the hottest days of the year were spent out here near the water. I wasn't the only one hiding from the sun in the shade of the harbor buildings. The final strokes where made with a cacophony of sounds, squawking birds, ruffling sails and old fishermen gabbing. All together a decent crowd.

I usually post my paintings there first.

"Winter Solstice at Miramar Beach" , Montecito, California

"Winter Solstice at Miramar Beach"
30x40 inches, oil on canvas, $2800.
Still recovering from a cold I came to the happiest place on Earth. After wading thru traffic and errands downtown I found myself and just a few others enjoying a perfect winter day at Miramar.

"Devereux Big View With Clouds", Goleta, California

"Devereux Big View with Clouds", Goleta. 18x36 inches, oil on canvas, sold

It was cold and windy at Devereux Point for this afternoon session. The clouds would completely fill in and then break up. When your painting a view for several hours, you really see how much it can change. The painting can end up being a disjointed combination of many different moments if your not careful. I tried my best to pick out the most exemplative colors and light. After contemplating it for a few days I decided it made the cut.

"Summerland Patchwork", from Ortega Hill, Summerland, California

"Summerland Patchwork", from Ortega Hill, 24x36 inches, oil on Canvas, sold

I really tried to capture the cloud shadows. It's not an easy task. Maybe if we had more clouds up in these parts I'd be auto. Until then I better use what I have.

"Fall Colors on State Street", Santa Barbara, California

"Fall Colors on State Street", Granada Block. 20x32 inches, oil on canvas, $1100.

Oh the conversations I'm part of, while hanging on State Street! I can always count on some entertaining people, especially setting up next to a Starbucks. Luckily I'm able to keep painting while listening to some rant or another. I never stop anyone from talking but I will refill my ice tea at opportune moments... — at Distinctive Art Gallery.

After the super moon there was a super high tide. One sailor commented it was the highest he'd seen in the past 52 years, arrrrrrr.

"Ellwood to Devereux, November 2016", at R Beach in Goleta, California

"Ellwood to Devereux, November 2016", at R Beach in Goleta. 24x48 inches, oil on canvas, sold

I have decided that I'll come to this exact spot and make a painting once a year for the rest of my life. More importantly I won't have to come up with clever names for the paintings as I'll just add the date to the title Ellwood to Devereux. Whew, that's a weight off my chest...

"Bird Refuge Mountain View", Santa Barbara, California

"Bird Refuge Mountain View", 24x48 inches, oil on canvas, sold
"Giclee"/Fine Art Print - Limited Edition of 20 - 19 still available
Epson Ultrachrome HD Pigment Inks on
Lex Jet Canvas or Epson Cold Press Natural Paper
24x48 Canvas - $700
24x48 Paper - $425
(They can also be printed bigger or smaller then this size if needed)

I've been driving by this view for the past 7 years thinking about what a great painting it would make. I finally walked the couple hundred yards from East Beach and was greeted with fluffy clouds and a cool breeze. Bike riders and stroller pushers where giving my thumbs ups and waves as they cruised by. La Cumbre Peak really stands back from the rest of the range from this angle. You can't quite see it but the Jerry Garcia Mountain is off to the right - as one of the bystanders pointed out to me.

"18th Hole At Sandpiper", Goleta, California

"18th hole at Sandpiper", Sandpiper Invitational, 2016. 18x24 inches, oil on canvas, sold (this painting now has a perfect frame on it that really showed it up) Come see this at Distinctive Gallery, 1331 State Street

I got to play in the Sandpiper Invitational this weekend. We go paired with a 0 and 3 handicap the first day and realized why we aren't a 0 or a 3. We played okay, I had a couple birdies and good par saves which made my day. The weather was perfect. I made this after, while they figured out who won. It wasn't us this time...

"The Grand Santa Barbara Riviera", Santa Barbara, California

"The Grand Santa Barbara Riviera", 36x72 inches, oil on Canvas, $7,500.
Made in the studio, this is an assimilation of all the paintings I've made here. It's such a different process painting without the ever changing view in front of you. I enjoy the pressure of painting on location. But it's also nice to be at home and contemplate a view. Please come and see this big boy in person at Distinctive Art Gallery, 1331 State Street. Open Mon-Sat 10-5pm.
