"Hanalei Bay Breakers"
8 x 10 inches
acrylic on panel
$280
One of the truths I have come to realize while painting is that the ocean is a moving, changing, dynamic being. It reflects and effects all the other objects in the landscape. It seems to reflect our own moods or vice versa. The rhythm of waves crashing and the cries of the birds a nice soundtrack. No wonder we find ourselves flying to little rocks in the middle of the Pacific.
I live in Santa Barbara, California and I try to paint everyday. I use painting as a way to express my interest and love for the world. If you are interested in purchasing a piece or getting on my mailing list please email me at chrispotterart@gmail.com.

Hanalei Bay Rocks, Kauai
"Hanalei Bay Rocks"
9 x 12 inches
acrylic on canvas panel
sold
I left before sunrise to find a place to paint. I am always anxious and nervous before I have found my subject and have chosen a motif. The sun was coming up and the road turned along the north coast of the island. I saw what looked like a nice place to park. I was lucky enough to find this view at the bottom of a short path. The waves were crashing against the lava rocks with tremendous force sending water and mist flying. Per chance the swell was coming in at an angle such that I wasn't getting soaked. Although I do confess I did go scrambling away a few times as some of the big ones came pretty close.

Moloaa Bay, Kauai
"Moloa'a Bay Rocks"
5 x 7 inches
acrylic on panel
sold to my wife
I tried to really focus on my values for this piece. It was hard to make the sky that dark but in the end thats what makes the water and the sand look so bright. In painting, like with nature all things have to work together.

"Na Pali Coast" Kauai
"Na Pali Coast"

sold
One day I want to travel the world painting all the beautiful landscapes that I have never seen. As long as I can train my kids to stay close and behave, that day might come soon... or maybe not... Zenia get back here!

"Nini Beach", Kauai
"Nini Beach"
8 x 10 inches
acrylic on panel

Go figure, another perfect day on the beach in Kauai. I didn't even make it into the water. I sat on the beach, hung out with friends, drank some rum and painted this piece. I couldn't of had more fun...

Hanalei Valley, Kauai
"Hanalei Valley"
5 x 7 inches
acrylic on panel
$180
Apparently this mountain was shrouded in clouds the week prior while it must have gotten a lot of rain. A few dry days later the waterfalls where faint or absent. The whole time I was in Kauai I felt like I was stepping into the past where vegetation ruled the earth.
