I made this up at night in the studio from memory. I saw this view the last time we drove up into Toro Canyon. Its a special geographic place as its the biggest hill away from the mountains. The views are unrivaled.

"Lifting Fog" Ortega Hill, Summerland

"Lifting Fog"
9 x 12 inches
oil on canvas board
sold

For the past few days it has been starting to clear up around noon and it has been taking a long time. For me that means I get a long window to capture that transition from overcast to sunny. Up here on the hill it was especially rewarding because I just watched as color come into the ocean. What was once pale grey was shimmering and turning a multitude of greens, blues, purples and grays. Had this been a year ago I would not have seen it as my senses where not sharpened as they are now. I sold the 9 x 12 one right away but I so inspired up there I did make a baby piece pictured below that is still available.
