How do you know when a painting is finished? A lot of people have asked me that question - artists and non artists. I think the secret to figuring that out lies in how the painting was started. If the painting is started with a vision of what you want to say then the painting is finished when you have said just that. In this piece I wanted you to feel the color, the clear crisp afternoon air and the noble deepness of the trees. Even though there is limitless detail in a scene like this you don't have to paint it in - thank god.
